Decent Homes Standard

Cross-party committee of MPs has called for further measures and requirements to be imposed on the private rented sector.

The Government has launched a consultation on a new Decent Homes Standard for the private rented sector seeking views on how best to apply a consistent minimum standard to privately rented homes, as already exists in the social housing sector.

Landlords are grappling with uncertainty over how the Decent Homes Standard will be applied under the Renters’ Rights Bill, which is currently under review in the House of Lords Committee Stage.
