The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) has published an ‘easy to read’ version of the ‘How to Rent’ guide. This has caused confusion as landlords have been unsure whether to use the full 18 page version of the guide published in December 2020 or the new abridged version. This is an important matter, as to serve a valid Section 21 notice to evict a tenant a landlord must have correctly served, with other mandatory documents, the most up to date version of the ‘How to Rent’ guide at the start of the tenancy or renewal of the tenancy.
The MHCLG has said: “The easy read version of the How to Rent guide was published yesterday – the December 2020 version is the main, full and most recent version of the guide. The easy read version is just an easy read version of the December document.”
LPA members can download the most up to date copy of the mandatory ‘How to Rent’ guide using the link to the gov.uk website in the documents section of the members only area.
