Landlords are being offered increased financial support to install electric vehicle charging points at rental properties, with grants now worth up to £500 per charge point. The funding, which has been extended until March 2027, is available to landlords, renters, flat owners, households with on-street parking and businesses. According to the government, the increased grant will cover almost half the cost of a typical installation, up from the previous maximum of £350.

The changes are intended to support wider access to EV charging, particularly for households without a private driveway. The government estimates that at least 40% of UK households do not have a private driveway, rising to more than 70% in urban rental areas such as city centres.

There is currently no legal requirement for landlords to provide EV charging points in rental properties, and landlords have often pointed to uncertainty around cost recovery, limited tenant demand and unclear legal obligations as barriers to installing them.

The National Residential Landlords Association has welcomed the changes, highlighting what it says is strong landlord willingness to provide charging where suitable. Chief executive Ben Beadle said: “Almost nine in 10 landlords with a suitable property would install EV charge points if a tenant asks them to undertake this work.

“Given the extent of landlords’ willingness to provide them, we welcome the Government’s plans to encourage more widespread installation of these points across the sector.

“We urge landlords to make best use of the grants now available where it is feasible for them to do so.”

Landlords interested in applying should note that before the end of March 2026, applications can be made via the OZEV portal below.

From 1 April 2026, applications should instead be made through the government’s Find a Grant service below.
