Landlords who accept tenants in receipt of benefits may be interested in the council’s Private Sector Lettings Scheme. They have strong demand for family homes of two, three and four bedrooms.

For 15 years the scheme has been matching tenants and landlords and provides support across multiple agencies including universal credit processes, arrangement of direct rental payments or housing and welfare support. The landlord retains management of the property during the tenancy.

Income from benefit type tenancies will increase as Housing Allowance rates are to increase in April 2024 after being frozen for a couple of years. This reinstates the link to private rented sector market rents and the rates are set to the 30th percentile of rents.
