The next stage of the Renters’ Rights Bill in the House of Lords is expected early June, shortly after peers return from the Whitsun recess on 02 June.

So far there have been 30 hours of debate on the Bill during the Committee Stage with over 300 proposed changes but with only a small number being agreed to.

The Bill now moves to the Report Stage and the Lords will debate the amendments made at the Committee Stage.

The Bill then returns to the House of Commons where it is anticipated there will be rapid agreement – due to the Labour Party’s large majority – and will be sent for Royal Assent.

The consensus it that the Bill will become law in late summer and implementation will be set for late 2025 or early 2026.
